Managing data on an iOS device is not as simple as it sounds. Getting used to iTunes can take some time for first-time users and it is not particularly friendly to advanced users either. If you wish for an easier way to look at your iPhone's contents, then you should try iExplorer. It displays everything you have on your iOS device, including system files. The best part is that it allows you to browse through your music, photos and any other files just like in Windows Explorer.

The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X and it can be installed in a few seconds. Besides its core files, you can also install additional drivers on your computer, to enable a disk mounting feature. The software is free to try for a limited period of time, after which you have to pay for a license.

When launched, iExplorer will ask you to plug in your device, via direct cable. Once you connect your device, you will be able to browse through its contents on the software's explorer-like user interface. Media files, apps, photos, backups and other file types are organized in different folders, which can be selected in a navigation pane, on the left side of the interface.

If you connect an iPhone to your computer, you will be able to access your contacts, messages, voice mail and call history on the application's interface. Besides exploring a device's contents, you can also transfer them to your computer and vice versa. When it comes to music, you can either right click individual files or a selection of files and hit an option to copy them to a local folder or to iTunes. Alternatively, you can use the software's Auto-Transfer feature to synchronize entire playlists to iTunes.

If you decide to include the EldoS Callback File System drivers, when installing the software, you will be able to mount an iPhone or an iPad in Windows Explorer or in Mac OS X's Finder. This gives you the possibility of exploring and managing your device's data much easier.

Pros

The application makes it possible to explore all files on an iOS-powered device. You can manage media files and pictures, transfer them to your computer, back them up and more. It is also possible to view and back up contacts, messages and other phone data.

Cons

A media file conversion feature or a ringtone generator would be a welcome addition. With iExplorer, browsing through an iOS device's files can be done much faster and easier.
